On January 12, can you get to the "Top of the Bloc" at the Central Plains RecPlex bouldering competition? Participants can compete in three categories: Open, Recreational, and Youth. Experienced climbers will enjoy the competitive edge of the "open" category, while beginners are welcome to try competition climbing for the first time in the recreational category. Registration fees: The fee to register is $30. No membership is required to participate, so the competition is open to anyone! Registration includes a free t-shirt and a climbing workshop Registration: Please print out the registration form and bring it and your fee to the Central Plains RecPlex. All participants are required to fill out and sign a waiver before climbing. A parent or legal guardian must fill out a waiver form for participants under 18. Competition Style: Top of the Bloc will be a modified scramble format bouldering event. With the support of Vertical Adventures’ setting team, there will be 20 problems for climbers to solve. The harder the problem, the more points you get for making it to the top. The more points you have, the better you do! All of this will lead to a flash finals format. Four new problems will be set, and the top five climbers will battle it out again in a new test of strength and willpower. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category. The prizes don't end there! Anyone that enters will have a chance to win a draw prize. About Bouldering: Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is performed without the use of ropes or harnesses. While it can be done without any equipment whatsoever, most climbers use climbing shoes to help secure footholds and chalk to keep their hands dry/ Large crash mats help to prevent injuries from falls. In the Central Plains RecPlex Climbing Pit, the bouldering area covers the entire West wall and accommodates from 6-10 different routes at a time (depending on the route setting). The bouldering wall is 12 ft. tall and has a variety of small to large overhangs. This wall varies from easy routes to very challenging routes and is fun for all skill levels. All new routes will be set for the competition!
