Southport Aerospace Centre Inc. is proud to announce their newest tenant; The Portage Daycare. This is wonderful news for not only Southport, but also the Portage la Prairie region where there is a high demand for more daycares.
The Portage Daycare will still have their Portage la Prairie locations, but will be adding another one at Southport, in the Central Plains RecPlex, which is currently under construction. In May, the announcement to reconstruct the existing Southport Recreation Centre was made. The new facility, Central Plains RecPlex, is planned to open in the spring of 2016 and will include; new fitness and weight areas, a 110m walking path, 30m rock climbing wall, new change rooms, a welcome area that will include a food kiosk and cash machine, and the Portage Daycare!
The Portage Daycare is excited to become a part of the new RecPlex facility in the coming year. The children’s space is designed to be licensed by the Province of Manitoba for 30 children ages 18 months – 5 years old and will be open Monday – Fridays year round. Opening and closing times will be determined based on the needs of the families that are registered with them. Lisa Voth, Manager of Portage Daycare, states “This will be the fourth site for our organization which has been in business in Portage la Prairie since 1972. We encourage any Military families, employees based at Southport and residents to register their children online in the New Year using the Government of Manitoba Child Care web site”. Voth encourages everyone to watch for updates and links on that page. As well, the Portage Daycare is currently searching for any funding opportunities and grants that can help with fixtures, furniture, and equipment for the new site! All donations are welcome!
Peggy May, CEO of Southport, explains “We are thrilled to have Portage Daycare a part of our Southport community, which will have such a positive impact for the military personnel, and the people that work and live here at Southport!”
